Shriyanka wins silver in Asian Shooting Championship

Ace Odia rifle shooter Shriyanka Sadangi won a silver medal in the 10m air rifle junior women team event on the opening day of the 13th Asian Shooting Championship at Kuwait City in Kuwait earlier on Novemebr 2. Shriyanka logged a score of 412.8 in the qualification round and made it to the finals.

This was the 15th international madal for Shriyanka, who had, coincidentally, secured her first one, a gold, at the 4th Asian Airgun Championship at Kuwait in October, 2011. A trainee of Khel Ratna Awardee Gagan Narang’s Pune-based shooting academy `Gun for Glory’, Shriyanka is now pursuing her Master degree in Delhi University.

In the 10m air rifle junior women competition, two Indians _ Mampi Das and Shriyanka Sadangi _ qualified for the finals but finished fourth and seventh respectively. They, however, won the team silver medal in the event with a combined total of 1228. Mandeep Popli was the third Indian girl in the team. Iran won the gold with 1233 and Korea the bronze with 1227.8.
